The Power of Art

Mar 31, 2016 | Projects, Women of Worth | 5 comments

Karen commenced in one of the Women of Worth Foundation projects in February 2016. Born in 1977 in Whyalla. Karen is the eldest of twins, she was brought up in Umeewarra Mission Port Augusta in a Children’s home. She completed her education in Port Augusta and previously lived in Coober Pedy where her family are from.

Karen had never picked up a paintbrush/stick until she came to W.O.W. One day we decided to make bags and on this day, her talent emerged. She expressed her desire to try and paint, which resulted in her extraordinary creative natural ability. Karen embraces her culture and each painting is a memory of her childhood, upbringing, her past and dreams for the future.

W.O.W has given me the opportunity to express myself through my dot painting and doing so I have gained confidence in myself and a sense of self-worth. I would never have thought I had the ability to be an artist until the Women of Worth Foundation team empowered me to be confident and step outside the life I had known. Being part of W.O.W has changed my life for the better! I enjoy painting and I am now proud of what I have produced and I can allow myself to dream of a better future.

I am at peace and I have a great sense of pride especially when I paint. To be Women of Worth means to be respected for who I am and my worth. February 2016 has changed me as a woman and I am now in control of me. When I think of my future I smile and I forgive past.

I’m impressed, I must say. Seldom do I come across a blog that’s both educative and interesting, and let me tell you, you’ve hit the
nail on the head. The problem is something that too few men and women are speaking intelligently about.
Now i’m very happy that I came across this during my search for something relating
    to this.

Please inform me if this alright along. Thanks a lot!
